This Website

My name is Lynne Moneypenny and this is my attempt to put together all the Moneypennys

I've come across in my research and hopefully bring families together.

It is set out on different pages alphabetically by First Name then Date of Birth

and hopefully by doing it this way, any duplications will become obvious.

You can search this website by selecting your ancestor's first initial from the alphabet above.

Whenever possible, the person's parents, spouse and children are included in the table.

I have tried to include as much information as I can, and where I found it

but sometimes it comes from people's memories.

I have not included any names in the tables of those still living as this can cause problems.

This site only contains my own findings.  I have recorded the information to the best of my ability,

but obviously cannot promise complete accuracy.

However, I will be pleased to receive corrections and additions!

As my line goes through Liverpool, the Isle of Man, Northern Ireland and Scotland

most of my records lean that way, but I will add any others as I come across them.

I still have a lot of the earlier ancestors to add.

Most official Irish records were lost in fires in the early 1900's

and this has made the Irish lines hard to trace.

However, I have managed to find a few family members

and I will eventually include everything I have found so far.

Many people have helped me and contributed to this information,

and some of them turned out to be distant family!

My thanks to them for their help especially Chuck, Mike, Iain, Noela,

Christopher, Ayla and the folk at Rootschat.com who are amazing!

I also used the sites mentioned in Links below and I'm grateful for the help I received from them.

Origins of Name

If you are a Moneypenny you may know that the first Moneypenny

was the son of a French businessman.  His name varies between Roger, Richardus,

or Richard and  Moneypenny, Moniepennie, Monypenny or Magne Piene.

According to Burke's Landed Gentry he was called Ricardus de Moniepennie

and was give a Charter of the Lands by Thomas, Prior of St Andrew's in 1211.

Eventually four of his descendants moved to Northern Ireland in the early 1600's

and my tree stems from one of them although I don't know which yet.

Richard's father was named James Dauphin which is French for dolphin,

hence the appearance of dolphins on Moneypenny Coat of Arms ever since.

More information on those early Moneypennys can be found on

Chuck Moneypenny's web site in the links below with other sites I have found useful.
